Search Courses

• Choosing Keywords

There are two ways to search for courses:

• By course Code, Title or Description keyword
• By Institution

When you search by course Code, Title or Description keyword, Transfer Navigator matches your search keyword(s) with words (or word fragments) that appear in either the course Code or course Title.

To search courses by course Code, Title or Description keyword:

1. Navigate to Step 1 – Search Courses.
2. Enter a full or partial Code into the text box.

AND/OR

3. Enter a full or partial Title into the text box.

AND/OR

4. If you know subject keywords, but are unsure if these keywords appear in the Title, you have the option of expanding your search to include the text in course Descriptions.
5. To limit your search to a particular term, select a Term from the drop-down menu.
6. By default, Transfer Navigator displays ten Results Per Page. To display more or less records, use the drop-down menu.
7. Click Search.

NOTE: Keyword searches can be done using the following options: Starts With, Contains, Exact Match, Match All Words, Match Any Words. You can perform a keyword search with either complete words or word fragments. For instance, to search for science courses, you can type either science or the word fragment sci into the Code, Title, or Description search box.

To search courses by Institution:

1. Navigate to Step 1 – Search Courses
2. Click the dropdown for Institution and select the Institution whose courses you wish to search.
3. If desired, use the instructions above to also enter a word or word fragment in the course Code, Title, and/or Description text box.

TIP: To display all of the courses offered at all institutions, leave all Search fields blank and click Search.

To add a course to your Academic History, click on the Add to Cart icon. This takes you to the Course Details page.

Choosing Keywords

The course Code, Title or Description keyword search matches your search keyword(s) with words (or word fragments) that appear in either the course Code or Title. If more than one keyword is entered, all of them must appear in either the Code, Title or Description.

Example

You are interested in the philosophy of science. Not all courses about the philosophy of science have both philosophy and science in the Title. However, you know the institution's Code for philosophy to be PHL and it is highly likely that the course would fall under that code. Enter the keyword PHL into the Code field and the word science into the Description field and click Search. Some of the possible results for your institution could be:

• PHL380 – Nature of Science
  
• PHL463 – Intro to Cognitive Science
  
• PHL480 – Philosophy of Science
  
• PHL485 – Philosophy of Social Science

NOTE: Only the last two courses would have been returned using the two keywords philosophy and science.
